THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS RETURN TO EUROPE WITH BRAND NEW “EVENING WITH” SHOW

Brand New Single The Communists Have the Music Arrives 21st Sept.

35-years deep, Brooklyn’s freewheeling local heroes They Might Be Giants remain rock’s most original perpetual-motion machine; creating startling new music and performing shows packed with spontaneity and undeniable joy across the globe. Now they are bringing a brand new show, “An Evening with They Might Be Giants” featuring two big sets to Europe and beyond. The show includes all-time favourites, along with an ever-shifting rotation of fresh rarities spanning their epic career, and spur-of-the-moment improvisations that will delight even their exhausted road crew. And now for the first time beyond NYC, they’re joined on tour with show-stopping trumpet genius Curt Ramm (Nile Rogers, Bruce Springsteen).

Today the band shares a new single via Dial-A-Song titled “The Communists Have the Music” which is an instant TMBG classic with the melodic hooks the band is renowned for. Listen to it twice and the song will play on in your head for days. A full production video is in the works, with the animation team lead by David Plunkert (the award-winning illustrator of the notorious New Yorker Trump/KKK sailboat cover). The track will be available digitally everywhere 21st September, backed with “I’ve Been Seeing Things”.

They Might Be Giants

This year alone the band released their 20th full-length album I Like Fun to rave reviews, played 50 US cities demolishing stages to mostly sold out rooms, was nominated for a Tony award for their song “I’m Not A Loser”, posted 20 additional songs on their Dial-A-Song service, was the featured guest on WTF with Marc Maron, and performed on CONAN (+ special web-exclusive)!

Blitzen Trapper Take Wild & Reckless From The Stage To The Studio

Earlier this year, the Portland, Oregon-based Blitzen Trapper accomplished a unique feat for a rock band who has been releasing albums and touring for the better part of two decades: a staged musical titled Wild & Reckless that ran for 28 performances at Portland Center Stage. Today, the band is announcing a new album of the same title that was born from the stage production and as a companion to their 2008 breakthrough album Furr.

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly premiered “Rebel,” the first single to be released from the forthcoming album.

‘Rebel’ is a song about a guy who for the love of a girl follows in his father’s footsteps only to find it to be a scam,” explains principal and frontman Eric Earley. “After several tries at the American dream he ends up selling cocaine to blue bloods in the Hollywood hills. Something of a lost Raymond Carver story with shambling near-country soundtrack.

The album Wild & Reckless was born from the stage production that the band spent the better part of a year producing. The half musical, half rock-opera dealt with heroin abuse, desperation, true love and western power structures. The story evoked a bygone era of Portland with this sci-fi love story, featuring a rock-and-roll score that paired unreleased songs with favorites from the band’s catalog.

Following the success of the production, the band took 7 original songs from the production and developed the theme further into the 12 songs that comprise the new album Wild & Reckless.

Frontman Eric Earley also sees the record as a companion and extention of their 2008 album Furr. “Wild and Reckless is something like a cross-eyed stepchild to Furr, in that it chronicles the darker dystopian stories of rural and suburban west coast death-drive via a riffing psychedelic landscape. Ten years after Furr with all its talk of murder and the end of the western world, it seems there’s more to tell.

Blitzen Trapper is Eric Earley (songwriter/singer), Erik Menteer (guitar, keyboard), Brian Adrian Koch (drums, vocals), Michael Van Pelt (bass) and Marty Marquis (keyboard, vocals). Wild & Reckless was produced by Eric Earley and Michael Van Pelt and was recorded by Gregg Williams at The Trench, in Portland, Oregon.  It was mixed by James Brown (Foo Fighters, Kings Of Leon, Blitzen Trapper’s All Across This Land) at The Union.

Wild and Reckless is available for pre-order now and will be released in Europe on British indie label Lojinx. Pre-order now on heavyweight vinyl LP, CD & digital.

The Posies announce 8th album Solid States

Rock ‘n’ roll has rarely been as smart, soulful or satisfying than it has in the hands of The Posies. During an on/off career that’s stretched across four decades, the Seattle-rooted outfit, led by musical polymaths Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, have shaped and re-shaped their muse, creating one of the more compelling catalogues in modern pop.

With SOLID STATES, their 8th album, the Posies mark dramatic changes in the lives, the music, the evolution of the band.

When the Posies long time drummer, Darius, died suddenly and unexpectedly last year, Posies founding members Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow were devastated. Hard as it was to continue without such a close friend and great musician, the moment called for a reinvention. For now… the idea of the band getting into a room and banging out the music, garage band style, was over. The ideas coming from Jon and Ken were fragile and the moods contemplative. Death, divorce, loss. Even the joys of life are fleeting enough as to be treated with care and respect.

Of course, the Posies still retain their legendary melodic abilities, their trademark vocal harmonies and their lyrical agility. The band has always been exploring, growing. The multiyear gaps between albums are typically spent in countless other projects that bring new skills, sounds, experiences and people to the picture. The band will present the album live in a new format, incorporating laptop elements along with guitars, keyboards and drums. As artists, the band feels it’s their duty to take risks and explore.

Download album track Squirrel vs Snake:

“SQUIRREL vs. SNAKE” is a state of the ‘disunion’ in the USA and beyond… the disharmony, the threats to intellectual freedom, and the cynicism and lies we take for granted now in the age of doublespeak.

Solid States will be released on heavyweight vinyl LP, CD and digital on British indie Lojinx on the 29th April 2016 in Europe. A pre-release tour edition, with bonus download tracks, will be available exclusively at live shows in Europe throughout April.

They Might Be Giants announce UK tour dates

2015 may well prove to be the busiest on record in They Might Be Giants, and the intensity shows no sign of abating as the band announce their return to the UK for a string of dates in January and February 2016.

They Might Be Giants‘ last full-band show in the UK was a sold-out Shepherd’s Bush Empire in late 2013, however, the band, performing as a trio, thrilled a packed Rough Trade East for a one-off in-store show in July this year following a string of radio appearances on BBC Radio 2, 6 Music, Absolute Radio, BBC London and more.

From breakthrough low-budget videos to the world’s first downloadable album to audio and video podcasts to smart phone apps, They Might Be Giants‘ career has always been one of unlikely innovation. Now their most notorious innovation, Dial-A-Song, has been revitalised for 2015. Originally launched in 1983 from John Flansburgh’s Brooklyn kitchen via a consumer answering machine, Dial-A-Song let listeners in on the latest and greatest from the band years before their career took off on an international level.

With a new song posted every week, the 2015 return of Dial-A-Song in online form would be an extraordinary challenge by any standards. Not only have this year’s songs maintained an exceptionally high level of quality, every week has brought a new accompanying video. Following the release of Glean earlier this year the band are expected to announce details of the follow-up full-length very soon.

Blitzen Trapper Set To Release New Studio Album All Across This Land

BAND UNVEILS NEW TRACK “LONESOME ANGEL” AS FREE DOWNLOAD

Acclaimed Portland, Oregon rock quintet Blitzen Trapper is set to release All Across This Land on October 2 via Lojinx in Europe (on Vagrant in the US). Blitzen Trapper has built a solid reputation as a band unafraid to take chances. By incorporating a vast array of influences, they have released albums that touch on indie folk/rock, roots, art rock, alt country, psychedelia and pop, while maintaining a sound that is distinctly Blitzen Trapper. On their new studio effort, the group’s years of experimentation and experience have come full circle, culminating in their strongest, most cohesive work to date with the career milestone, All Across This Land. View new the ALBUM TRAILER:

Blitzen Trapper may have experimented successfully with a multitude of styles; however, the band has been built on a strong foundation as, above all else, a ROCK band. Their live shows consistently reinforce that fact, and those who have experienced their performance would agree.

Blitzen Trapper All Across This Land

All Across This Land once again confirms that Blitzen Trapper possess the unique ability to create thoughtful, melodic, finely crafted songs on one hand, and deliver full throttle, infectious rock on the other. From the opening riff of the title track and first single, this is quite evident as it unfolds into a flurry of guitars, bass and drums. The band eases back as well by featuring some of lead singer and songwriter Eric Earley’s strongest writing yet, particularly on the semi-autobiographical “Mystery and Wonder”. The track’s reflective and nostalgic tone was inspired by the band’s beginnings, the chemistry that develops over time and the music they have created though the years. Another album highlight is “Lonesome Angel” with its easy ‘70’s AM radio feel.

While All Across This Land features some of Earley’s finest songs to date, the rest of his bandmate’s performances – Erik Menteer (guitar), Michael Van Pelt (bass), Marty Marquis (guitar/keys), Brian Adrian Koch (drums) – elevate each track thus taking Blitzen Trapper to their highest artistic peak yet.

They Might Be Giants announce new album “Glean” as Dial-A-Song continues every week throughout 2015

2015 is already a landmark year in two-time Grammy winners They Might Be Giants‘ illustrious career. With the return of their Dial-A-Song service, the band have been posting a new track and accompanying music video every week to unanimous exclamations of joy from fans old and new.

Every Tuesday throughout the year a new song is posted via www.dialasong.com, TMBG’s “Particlemen” YouTube channel and on their free smartphone apps.

In celebration, the band is releasing GLEAN on 20th April via Lojinx in Europe and on 21st April in the US on their own Idlewild imprint. It includes 16 songs direct from these first weeks of their Dial-A-Song service. The range of these recordings is truly staggering. From the manic violin-driven ‘Music Jail, Pt. 1 & 2‘ to the bluesy grinding of ‘Underwater Woman,’ Glean comprises some of They Might Be Giants’ most vital work of their 30+ year career. With the album, TMBG’s sound is in equal turns as rocking, surprising, effervescent, and truly original as they have ever been. The highly anticipated album is produced with long-time collaborator Pat Dillett (St. Vincent, Mary J. Blige, David Byrne, Donald Fagen, etc), and comes hot on the heels of 2013’s fan-favourite Nanobots.

From the world’s first downloadable album to audio and video podcasts to smart phone apps, They Might Be Giants’ career has always been one of unlikely innovation. And now their most notorious innovation, Dial-A-Song, has been revitalised for 2015. Originally launched in 1983 from John Flansburgh’s Brooklyn kitchen via a consumer answering machine, Dial-A-Song let listeners in on the latest and greatest from the band years before their career took off on a international level.

In February the band announced a video contest for the lead single ‘Erase’, to be judged by Black Francis of the Pixies. As the 7th April deadline approaches, it’s sure to elicit spectacularly original results and the 3 winners will each be handsomely rewarded with a $1000 cash prize.
