In light of basking in the blues for the last couple years and feeling pretty good these days, I decided to treat you all with a snarky, NSFW (north south fuckin west?) Holiday ditty about your narcissistic Ex. And hey. It’s free! You’re welcome. Please enjoy “Santa’Self (F*ck Your Christmas Party)” as my holiday gift to you. Earmuffs for the kids!

I love you.

BAND UNVEILS NEW TRACK “LONESOME ANGEL” AS FREE DOWNLOAD

Acclaimed Portland, Oregon rock quintet Blitzen Trapper is set to release All Across This Land on October 2 via Lojinx in Europe (on Vagrant in the US). Blitzen Trapper has built a solid reputation as a band unafraid to take chances. By incorporating a vast array of influences, they have released albums that touch on indie folk/rock, roots, art rock, alt country, psychedelia and pop, while maintaining a sound that is distinctly Blitzen Trapper. On their new studio effort, the group’s years of experimentation and experience have come full circle, culminating in their strongest, most cohesive work to date with the career milestone, All Across This Land. Blitzen Trapper may have experimented successfully with a multitude of styles; however, the band has been built on a strong foundation as, above all else, a ROCK band. Their live shows consistently reinforce that fact, and those who have experienced their performance would agree.

Blitzen Trapper All Across This Land

All Across This Land once again confirms that Blitzen Trapper possess the unique ability to create thoughtful, melodic, finely crafted songs on one hand, and deliver full throttle, infectious rock on the other. From the opening riff of the title track and first single, this is quite evident as it unfolds into a flurry of guitars, bass and drums. The band eases back as well by featuring some of lead singer and songwriter Eric Earley’s strongest writing yet, particularly on the semi-autobiographical “Mystery and Wonder”. The track’s reflective and nostalgic tone was inspired by the band’s beginnings, the chemistry that develops over time and the music they have created though the years. Another album highlight is “Lonesome Angel” with its easy ‘70’s AM radio feel.

While All Across This Land features some of Earley’s finest songs to date, the rest of his bandmate’s performances – Erik Menteer (guitar), Michael Van Pelt (bass), Marty Marquis (guitar/keys), Brian Adrian Koch (drums) – elevate each track thus taking Blitzen Trapper to their highest artistic peak yet.

Following yesterday’s premiere in The Guardian, Fred Abbott’s solo debut is now available for free download via Soundcloud.

Fred Abbott will release his debut solo album, Serious Poke, on 20th July. The London-based musician, until now best known as lead guitarist and keyboard player in the recently disbanded Noah And The Whale, previews the album with a free download of the pop-rock gem, Funny How Good It Feels.

A supremely talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Fred Abbott joined Noah And The Whale in 2009 and went on to huge success with that group, especially notable being his contribution to 2011‘s Platinum-selling and highly acclaimed Last Night On Earth.

Abbott enlisted the help of his Noah And The Whale compadres and other friends for the recording of Serious Poke, with sessions taking place at West London’s British Grove Studios over the past year. The album was co-produced by Fred with Martin Hollis, whose diverse credits include Grinderman, The Rolling Stones and Take That.

Serious Poke will be released on Lojinx on 20th July.

Irish duo The Lost Brothers announce new Christmas single featuring members of The Frames and more…

“Little Angel” is offered as a free download but the band ask that people make a donation to a children’s charity of their choice this Christmas, or purchase the digital single from any good download store, with 100% of profit going to UNICEF (www.unicef.org.uk).

“Little Angel” started seven years ago as a rough demo recorded in an attic in Portland, Oregon. The song lived in a drawer with The Lost Brothers archives until inspiration hit earlier this year while crossing the Irish Sea during a rocky winter storm. Out came the guitars and the remaining verses and choruses were written in one sitting.

To record the song California native Sean Coleman, now living in Dublin, was called in to produce at Gavin Glass’s Orphan Studios. Some of Dublin’s stellar musicians were recruited to record the song with sessions featuring The Frames’ Graham Hopkins on drums, Michael Buckley and Ronan Dooney from Glen Hansard’s band arranging the brass, bass is played by Keith Duffy and The Lost Brothers on vocals and guitars. A rich musical friendship lay at the roots of the recording as The Lost Brothers had toured with some of these players across the US when supporting Glen Hansard on tour.

The digital single includes second track ‘St Christopher’, a cosmic Christmas ballad written and recorded in the Lost Brothers’ spiritual home of Liverpool. Produced by Domino recording artist Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral), the song features special guest Drew McConnell (Babyshambles, Fionn Regan) on bass guitar and Ryder-Jones on piano.
